Pac-10
Pacific -10 conference, which is popularly known as Pac-10, was established in 1959 as Big Five and was called Big Six in 1962; it was renamed as Pacific 8 in 1968 and finally it became Pac -10. Pac-10 is headquartered in Walnut Creek, California and is member of Division 1 and FBS. Pac 10 is extremely successful conference with over 155 NCAA team titles in last 18 seasons and 26 different men’s and women’s sports. Pac 10 has led the US in NCAA championship 42 times out of the last 48 years and 5 times it was the runner up. The universities that are members of Pac-10 are: University of Southern California (USC); University of Oregon; Oregon State University; University of California Berkley; University of Arizona; Arizona State University; Stanford University; University of California Los Angles (UCLA) ; Washington State University and University of Washington. After NCAA approved 12 games schedule in 2006 for college football, the Pac -10 is the only major conference doing so.
USC Trojans recorded their 10 win and were number one in Pac-10 with a conference tally of 8-1 and overall tally of 12-1 in 2008. USC Trojans are again favorites to win this year’s Pac-10 championship and are rated no 5 in preseason polls to win NCAA football championship . Based in Los Angles, the team has their home ground at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. USC Trojans tasted success on the signing day by getting Pete Carroll but they lost Manti Te’o (Linebacker), Matt Barkley (quarterback) & Vortaze Burfict (middle linebacker). Still they manage to sign 10 out of the top 100 rated players. USC Trojans were rated fourth nationally. They have signed two junior college players, a 330 pound DT Hebron Fangupo and K-P Jacob Harfman for inside position and kicking and punting jobs. Oregon Ducks is the team of University of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon. It was second in 2008 standings of Pac-10 with an overall tally of 10-3 and conference tally of 7-2. The team also won Holiday Bowl against Oklahoma State. The team’s football home ground is called Autzen Stadium at Rich brooks fields. Oregon State Beavers were a close third in Pac-10 standing with conference tally of 7-2 and overall tally of 9-4. OSU Beavers lost the Civil War to Oregon Ducks in 2008. The team home ground is Calfornia Memorial Stadium. Bears start as a favorite in Pac-10 with Oregon Ducks and OSU Beavers to break the USC Trojans hold on the game. Cal Golden Bears start the 2009 season as a team which is among Top 25 teams nationally in preseason polls. The first match is with Minnesota followed by home game with Maryland but their toughest match is with Oregon Ducks on Sept 28th, which may set the tone in the early season of things to come. Jahid Best, tailback is the best in the league and Center back Syd’Quan is also a star to watch but quarter back position needs a careful look.
