The Notre Dame Fighting Irish has a good tradition when it comes down to football. As a result, University of Notre Dame merchandise sales like a Notre Dame blanket have shot through the roof. Since the late 1800s, they have been playing football. The Wolverines of Michigan brought football to the University of Notre Dame. In 1887, some of the students that were on campus were chosen to play. Notre Dame have had good coaches over the past hundred or so years. Notre Dame won thirteen national championships, although only eleven are counted. Several seasons Notre Dame tied with other teams and thus no lone champion was determined.
As the second winningest school in college football, Notre Dame has seen many former players that have been put into The College Football Hall of Fame. Notre Dame’s superb coaching along with great players is probably why they have the most players in the Hall of Fame. Notre Dame can brag about the fact that they have several Heisman winners. Also, they are in a three way tie with USC and The Ohio State if you count the number of Heisman winners. Michigan is the only other school that has more of a winning tradition than Notre Dame. People have things like Notre Dame collectibles from some of those winning games against good teams. Every school has major rivals. Notre Dame is no different. Notre Dame plays USC for The Jeweled Shillelagh in their annual football game. As big as that rivalry is, it still doesn’t come close to beating Ohio State and Michigan’s. Everybody remembered the Fighting Irish’s abysmal season last year. It was their worst season in the history of their school. You would have expected the fans to go into hiding after the first embarrassing losses but they proudly stayed there. One dude even had a Notre Dame flag but the school spirit didn’t help. It should come as no surprise that USC beat Notre Dame in a cakewalk. Notre Dame and USC have had good games in the past and the Notre Dame football merchandise that has been sold for these games should speak for itself. Last year was one of the few lopsided games in this rivalry.
Notre Dame Football Stadium, capacity of 80,000 , is where the Fighting Irish plays home games at. Charlie Weis, current head coach, started coaching in 2004 and has a contract that won’t expire until 2015.
